Karolina Świątek

Abstract

The banking market in Poland is undergoing dynamic changes, which are particularly evident as regards mergers and acquisitions. This has been reflected by changes in the ownership structure, particularly the processes of consolidation and concentration. Mergers have become the main way for the banking sector in Poland to achieve its strategic and financial goals. The aim of this article is to describe how mergers between banks can affect their financial results and how newly established banking units can benefit from the process. In addition, the author evaluates the direction of changes occurring in the Polish banking market and makes predictions about the possible effects of the current transformation process.
