The Foreign Trade Multiplier in Colombia for Bilateral Trade with Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia - the Member Countries of the Andean Community

Abstract

The article addresses the multiplier effect that occurs in an open economy using the example of Colombia's foreign trade with three other members of the Andean Community (CAN). The author tries to determine Columbia's multiplier reaction as a result of its bilateral trade with Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia using results of a comparative analysis of the value of export and import trade and a number of foreign trade indicators. Columbia's estimated multiplier effect from foreign trade with CAN countries in 2000-2019 was found to be varied. Positive cumulative GDP increases in Colombia were achieved as a result of trade with Ecuador (USD 9.220 billion) and Bolivia (USD 0.512 billion). (original abstract)
