Algorithm for Assessing the Usability of Locating Electric Car Charging Stations

Abstract
Transport, particularly road transport, is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas
emissions and pollutants that negatively impact climate, human health, and the natural environment, alongside the energy and industrial sectors. Despite ongoing controversies, electrification
is a crucial solution for reducing the negative external costs associated with transport. However,
electric vehicles face challenges due to their limited range and long charging times, necessitating
a comprehensive network of charging stations. This network’s inadequate availability significantly
impedes electromobility advancement, and Poland has substantial work to do in this area. This article aims to develop an original algorithm for assessing the location of charging stations to enhance
their usability for electric vehicle users. We have created a tool for evaluating potential and existing
charging station locations based on previous surveys of current and potential users and a review of
existing literature. The main advantage of this tool is its comprehensiveness and ease of use, making
it highly applicable for local authorities to assess planned charging stations within their jurisdictions.
