Estonian CIT - an alternative form of taxation of company income

Abstract

In 2021, a new and legal – despite the legislative burdens – form of taxation of business entities was introduced in Poland: a flat-rate tax on corporate income. The direct inspiration for creating a flat-rate tax on corporate income was, among others, the corporate taxation model in force in Estonia, hence it is commonly called the “Estonian CIT”.

The essence of this method of income taxation is to shift the moment of tax liability until the actual distribution of the taxpayer's profits, which means that as long as the profits are retained in the company, taxation does not occur. The undistributed profits retained in the company can build its financial liquidity and can also be used for reinvestment.

This taxation system significantly facilitates running a business by reducing tax obligations, and additionally provides an incentive for further development financed by generated profits.
