The Ontology of Economics

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to address some problems of scientific cognition. The article adopts the consistent approach of economics to research problems. The starting point and basis for discussion are the concepts of general methodology, and clarifying the notion of truth as a value constitutive of science. Next, specific theories of truth are discussed, notably the correspondence theory of truth, and the idea of correspondence in general, in so far as it is relevant to the correspondence-based understanding of truth. In regards to economics and its ontology, the author refuses to accept the concept that cognition is confined to the material world and empirical evidence. Finally, the notion of value is highlighted as the most metaphysical idea in economics.(original abstract)
