Economic Slowdown in Poland at the Beginning and at the End of the First Decade of the 21st - a Comparative Analysis

Józef Karpiński

Abstract

During the past twelve years the Polish economy has twice experienced an economic downturn. The analysis of macroeconomic indicators enables to identify two "growth recessions" - at the beginning and at the end of the last decade. In both cases, the weakening of economic activity in Poland was caused by crisis phenomena in the environment. The paper conducted a detailed comparative analysis of these two periods of economic slowdown in our country. The author has set and justified the thesis that the sensitivity of the Polish economy to the adverse impacts of macro environment was significantly higher at the beginning of the last decade than during the economic and financial crisis in recent years.(original abstract)
