Redistribution of National Income in Sweden and the United States of America at the Turn of the 20th Century and the 21st Century - Comparison of Size and Structure

Joanna Głuch

Abstract

Sweden and the United States of America are both highly developed countries with democratic political system and capitalistic economy (as far as private property of enterprises is concerned). The main difference between those countries that this article focuses on lies in an approach to market freedom. Sweden is perceived as an example of interventionism whereas the USA as a typical liberal economy. The scale of government involvement in economy expresses national income redistribution. Redistribution of national income is an execution of taxes on the one hand and transfers and other budget expenditures on the other. Based on fiscal policy of both countries, taxation in Sweden should equalize personal income while taxation in the USA ought to provide income for budget expenditures with the lowest possible level of the market rules disturbance. In this article you can find a description of those two sides of national income redistribution in Sweden and the USA.(original abstract)
