The Importance of Debt of Voivodships for Territorial Development in Poland

Rafał Koczkodaj

Małgorzata Gorzałczyńska-Koczkodaj

Abstract

The problem of indebtedness of the public sector in Poland has fundamental importance especially now, in terms of growing global slump. However, without using returnable sources much of the investment could not be implemented, that could make it difficult or even preclude the development and economic growth. Moreover, the necessity of borrowing is supported by the fact that Poland and its regions have still only two years to use funds from the budget of European Union, within the financial perspective 2007-2013. This article, using the Correlation Coefficient Pearson's examined if there is correlation between the level of indebtedness of the individual voivodships and the growth of GDP per capita, average monthly gross salaries, unemployment rate or level of investment done by foreign investors.
