Abstract

The paper sets out the activities of local governments for creating multi-functional development of the municipalities covered by the Natura 2000 network. We analyzed in particular conditions of the development of tourism as a function of the use of local natural resources in the development process. The development was based on the results of empirical studies carried out under the project "Socio-economic determinants of sustainable development of rural areas covered by the Natura 2000 network on the territory of the green Lungs of Poland region". Research included the representatives of local government governors/mayors representing 14 municipalities on the territory of the green Lungs of Poland region where the contribution of the Natura 2000 protected area in the general area of the municipality is 80% or more.
