Two Years of NewConnect

Urszula Ziarko-Siwek

Abstract

NewConnect is a new market in Poland, built as an alternative trading system. During its existence over two years, investors have encountered a number of risks associated with it. Among them are: a short history of operation of the company, lack of adequate information on the issuers' financial results and the measures they take, advantage of private over public tenders, low turnover, a narrower scope of legal protection for investors and the nature of the industry from which issuers. By contrast, statistical analysis shows that the market has not progressed as rapidly as was expected at the time of its creation. One of the main reasons for this was probably the financial crisis.(original abstract)
