Polish Capital Market as a Success of System Transformation Process After 1989

Abstract

The article presents development of Polish capital market in 1991-2008. There has been analysed capital market per se, i.e. public stock market of long-term securities. The text consists of four parts. The first one presents functions and significance of capital market in market economy. The second part shows legal environment of capital market development in Poland. The literature analysing reasons of relatively fast and stable development of capital market in Poland stresses high level of capital market regulation. The third part presents dynamics of capital market development in Poland in 1991-2008. The last part shows Polish capital market at the background of other capital markets, including markets of the countries undergoing system transformation.(original abstract)
