Corruption in Countries after Transition

Marcin Brol

Abstract

The aim of the paper is an attempt to answer the question which conditions stimulate development of corruption? To what extent this phenomenon took place in centrally-planned economy? The paper discusses the problem of corruption in the countries undergoing transformation. There are indicated basic correlations between the behaviour of business agents and consumers and corruption. The main thesis of the paper is that corruption behaviour is a result of disappearance of private property for the sake of public or collective ownership, therefore lack of private property is a. basic factor forming the level of corruption. The other factors are e.g. quality of state institutions and culture environment. (original abstract)
