Bank Innovativeness - A Conceptual Approach

Abstract

Changes in the banking market contribute to the growing importance of innovativeness as a factor in achieving competitive advantage. While financial innovations have been the subject of scientific interest for many years, innovativeness of banks defined as an organisational trait is quite a new field of research. There are only a handful of articles on this issue in Western scientific literature, and none in the Polish literature. This article is an attempt to bridge this gap. The purpose of the article is to define a bank's innovativeness, its innovation capacity, and determine the relationship between those terms and actual innovations. The conceptual construct of bank's innovativeness can be the basis for further empirical research concerning this aspect of a bank's operating activity.(original abstract)
