Determinants of Institutional Competitiveness of Schools

Magdalena Majchrzak

Marek Piechowiak

Abstract

Schools in Poland can be competitive, provided they respond quickly to changes occurring in their environment. One important aspect of this responsiveness is the ability to react to socio-economic trends, such as globalization. The school's competitiveness depends, among other things, on school managers' awareness of the need to compete and teachers' readiness to adapt their behaviour. The teacher's role should consist not only in transferring knowledge but also in preparing students for life and fostering such qualities as creativity and entrepreneurship.(original abstract)
