Services and Value Chain of Manufacturing Companies - Theoretical Aspects

Joanna Stefaniak

Abstract

The modern economy is characterized by progressive servitisation of manufacturing, which means an increasingly wider provision of services by manufacturing companies. These services are associated with the provision of technological, operational, financial or distribution solutions and are increasingly important for creating business value. The value chain concept is useful in analysing the impact of these activities on the value and competitiveness of the firm. The aim of the article is to analyse the role of services for manufacturing companies using the value chain concept. Based on theoretical considerations, the author concludes that services are present in all links of the firm's value chain, but their role varies. Business-to-business services can determine competitiveness of businesses as they allow them to focus on strategic areas and better meet their customers' needs.(original abstract)
