Factors Affecting the Loyalty of Generation Y Employees

Abstract

The article addresses the problem of employee loyalty. Recognising the importance of this issue for the effective functioning of modern organizations the author focuses on factors influencing employee loyalty among representatives of generation Y. Expectations about life and work and attitudes characteristic for these young workers are often described as a kind of challenge for human resource management. One of these challenges is retention of valuable employees from generation Y. The article aims to identify the determinants of employee loyalty among representatives of this demographic and indicate factors associated with HR management which could support employers' activities in this area. The topic is discussed with reference to the literature and to results of studies and reports that show specific characteristics of how these young workers function in the labour market with special emphasis on the question of employee loyalty.(original abstract)
