The Problem of Electricity Demand and Supply Balancing in Germany as a Side Effect of the Renewable Energy Sources Development

Piotr Grądzik

Abstract

The major goal of German energy policy is becoming independent of external fuel supplies and preventing climate changes. Therefore, German government has been consistently replacing fossil fuel energy sources with renewables. As the power generation from renewable sources is highly dependent upon the weather conditions, and due to the fact that dispatchable sources have been pushed out of the market maintaining balance between the energy supply and demand is becoming more and more difficult. The state intervention such as system support by conventional reserve power plants has become inevitable.(original abstract)
