Economic Risk vs Tourism Sector Development - an Example of Tour Operator Enterprises

Abstract

Economic risk is an integral part of the business activity of each enterprise. In extreme cases, the risk taken has an impact on decisions of suspending business activity, liquidation, or the bankruptcy of companies. The aim of the article is to highlight the problems surrounding the risk connected with business activity in the tourism sector and to outline the structure of tour operators and travel agents against bankruptcies in Poland. In the first part of this study, the authors presented general issues concerning the significance of the tourism sector for the whole economy. Following that, the risks connected with business activity in the tourism sector were discussed. Among the last paragraphs of the study, a synthetic analysis was performed on tour operators and travel agents that were struck off the list of CEOTiPT, while taking into consideration the causes of that.(original abstract)
