Investment Funds as a Form of Involvement in Renewable Energy Sources

Sławomir Jankiewicz

Abstract

One of the key objectives of the EU (including Poland) is to ensure the security of the electricity supply in the systematic reduction of emissions to the atmosphere. One of the alternatives to help ensure this, are small power plants based on renewable energy sources (RES). Therefore, at the Community level, a number of instruments were introduced, starting from legal (eg. 3×20 Energy Package, the European Emissions Trading Scheme, the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council 2010/75 / EU of 24 November 2010 on industrial emissions) and ending with the related direct support, designed to increase the supply of energy produced from that source. Regardless of the preference and promotion, RES investments of this type are always associated with high risk. The article presents the concept of an investment fund as a form that allows reduction of some of the risks associated with involvement in RES.(original abstract)
