Innovation in Poland's Economy at the Turn of the First Decade of the 21st Century

Bożena Mikołajczyk

Abstract

National reform plans adopted by the member states of the European Union are aligned with the objective of EU's smart growth. This involves increasing emphasis on knowledge and innovation. To be able to meet the goal, EU countries have to not only improve knowledge production, but also strengthen the links between knowledge and business practice, boost industryacademia cooperation, and create an innovation-friendly financial environment. Successful implementation of the Europe 2020 strategy will largely depend on the effective coordination of national programs. The paper reports on progress made by Poland toward the formation of the Innovation Union vis-à-vis other EU countries.(original abstract)
