Fragmented Regulatory Environment of Hedge Funds versus Systemic Risk

Waldemar Aspadarec

Abstract

This article presents the analysis of causes, relationships, and after-effects of the influence of a hedge fund on a financial system and effective economy. Based on past research, it can be stated that setting up the rules and abiding by them in the process of counterparty credit risk management, among the highest steppingstones of regulated institutions such as banks, there is an efficient way to limit the influence of hedge funds on the systemic risk, and thereby, on the effective economy. The conclusion highlights that the reason for the outbreak of the global financial crisis, due to strong regulations, is the result of banks and insurance companies, not the unregulated hedge funds.(original abstract)
