The Role of Internationalization of Education with Emphasis on the Participation in the Erasmus Program in the Process of Building the Competitive Advantage of a University - the Example of the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the University of Łódź

Paweł Bryła

Abstract

Participation in the Erasmus programme constitutes one of the most important incentives for internationalisation of studies, which is expressed primarily in an increase of the international mobility of students and professors as well as in the preparation of an offer of courses delivered in foreign languages. The Faculty of International and Political Studies at the University of Lodz is characterized by a high level of internationalisation of studies, which boosts the attractiveness of its graduates on the highly competitive labour market and is one of major selection criteria adopted by candidates for studies. Students that stayed abroad in the framework of the Erasmus programme during their studies at the Faculty displayed a very positive opinion on this element of their education process. In a comprehensive research study covering all graduates of the Faculty, the opportunity to take part in stays abroad also received a very high assessment as a determinant of attractiveness of studies. Therefore, we may assume that internationalisation of studies constitutes an important element of the process of building the competitive advantage and brand of a university or faculty.(original abstract)
