3E as a Chance to Improve Public Sector Management

Agnieszka Skoczylas

Abstract

In the article is presented the concept of the 3E - economy, efficiency and effectiveness. Economy means financial aspects of activity. It is measured by looking at the cost of the resources consumed and the value of the output delivered. Efficiency can be measured in terms of the inputs required to generate the outputs. It is about the way in which work is completed. Effectiveness can be explained in terms of what is achieved. It is about whether targets are met or not. Public sector institutions should follow to private sector organizations and try to be more economy, efficiency and effectiveness (3E). They should use these tree criteria to estimate their activity nowadays and in the future. This idea can help public sector managers to be a better manager and understanding the 3E Effectiveness, Efficiency and Economy can help improve business performance. (original abstract)
