Szczecin in the National Strategy for Regional Development

Abstract
The article discusses the major objectives of the "National Strategy for Regional Development 2010 2020". Then it focuses on the role of the city of Szczecin in Poland's regional development policy. The diagnosis and directions of the activities approved indicate that Szczecin is to be one of Polish metropolises, which considering the objective problems of the region and the city itself need to be addressed by the development policy. The new bill on metropolitan areas, however, does not list Szczecin among Polish metropolises. This exclusion would inevitably contribute to the problems of the city and the region on the one hand, and be entirely inconsistent with both the diagnosis and the very idea of the National Strategy for Regional Development. It would be an incomprehensible, illogical and irrational decision against the Polish raison d'etat. (original abstract)Keywords:
