Discriminant Analysis as Exemplified by Some Polish and Foreign Models

Artur Stefański

Abstract

Discriminant analysis is one of the most popular methods in the prediction of enterprise bankruptcy. The study confirms the hypothesis that Polish bankruptcy models have higher predicting efficacy than foreign ones. Moreover, predicting usefulness of bankruptcy models is weaker when the time to the bankruptcy is longer. Research was conducted using a sample size of 20 enterprises (10 of them were bankrupt, and 10 of them still operate) which are not listed on GPW and financial data that were taken into account during the study come from the period of 2002-2004.
