Abstract

The main aim of the article is to examine the development path of the Finnish education system since the political transformation in Europe after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The author presents the structure and characteristics of the education system in Finland, as well as the way in which it is shaped by public and private institutions. The article highlights the process of modernization of the economy, from an economy based on agriculture and industry to a knowledge-based economy. Analysis of the current condition of the Finnish economy is accompanied by information about the country's position in the global competitiveness rankings. Finally, the author indicates possibilities of implementing certain Finnish solutions in Poland and identifies limitations that should be overcome in the process of building a high quality education system.(original abstract)
