Deposit Guarantee Schemes in African States and Their Impact on Financial Stability

Łukasz Szewczyk

Abstract

The article addresses the problem of deposit guarantee schemes in Africa, including Pan-African schemes created as part of economic unions functioning on this continent. It should be noted that the creation of deposit guarantee schemes is a sign of integration involving the creation of institutions that have a direct impact on the security of a common financial system. However, it should not be forgotten that the approach to the stability of a financial system adopted in Africa is different from that used in European countries, particularly given the level of development of the financial security network, which in most African countries is very low.(original abstract)
