A Comparative Assessment of Intersectoral Relations of the Woodworking Industry: Ukraine, Poland, Germany

Svitlana Ishchuk

Luybomyr Sozanskyy

Abstract

The authors identify the key problems and characteristics of the development of the woodworking industry by comparing the closeness of intersectoral ties and the cost of woodworking production in Ukraine and EU member states, including Poland and Germany. The results of the analysis indicate that the consumption of wood products by the Ukrainian economy is smaller by a factor of six compared to the Polish economy and by a factor of 20 compared with the German economy. It also turns out that the cost of Ukrainian woodworking production is the highest of all EU countries. The authors argue that the decreasing level of processing of raw material and the deteriorating manufacturability require a structural transformation of the Ukrainian wood processing industry.(original abstract)
