Mastery vs Performance Approach among the Talented and Other Employees

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present an empirical verification of the differences in the types of motivation among talented and other employees. The analysis used the assumptions of Achievement Goal Theory. The level of mastery approach and performance approach was measured in two groups of workers (N=160). The results show that, with respect to both applied scales, that the talented workers achieved higher results. The talented employee will have a high or a very high mastery approach and at least a medium performance approach. The conclusions of the study can help to increase the effectiveness of talent hiring, as well as, improve the system in order to motivate employees.(original abstract)
