NIEWIEDZA JAKO DETERMINANT UCZESTNICTWA W PRACOWNICZYCH PPLANACH KAPITAŁOWYCH (PPK)
Abstract
Employee Capital Plans, a part of the third pension pillar, introduced in Poland in 2018, are not yet widely known to the Polish public despite their quasi-obligatory nature. Those who decide to opt-in to the Employee Capital Plans (PPKs), have no knowledge of how the Polish pension system works, what are its components, solutions used or their financial future in old age.
This article presents an analysis of a research carried out among employers (PPK creators) and programme participants, their motivation for joining the scheme, factors determining their choice and their future in this respect.
The study employed a quantitative research method using a survey questionnaire. Two electronic survey questionnaires were used to carry out the study: the first one intended for participants (employees) and the second one addressed to employers (PPK creators).
As the study showed, making a decision on opting-in and enrollment in PPK programme was mainly based on incidental and incoherent knowledge about the scheme, opinions received from others (who not always are experts in this area), or the financial aspect, i.e. subsidies from the government and contributions from employers, rather than the awareness of, and knowledge about the functioning of the Employee Capital Plans (PPKs).
